Serene Reflection Meditation

The Chico Serene Reflection Meditation Group is affiliated with the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives and Shasta Abbey Buddhist Monastery near the town of Mt Shasta, California. Our practice is Soto Zen, also known as Serene Reflection Meditation.

Meetings are Wednesday evenings 6:00 – 7:30 PM

We are now meeting in person. Masks are optional.

Our practice includes: meditation, ceremony and study of the Dharma. Our weekly meetings consist of meditation, both sitting and walking. Afterwards we have tea, cookies and discuss some aspect of the Dharma. This can consist of pre-arranged readings, pre-recorded Dharma talks, answering questions, and spontaneous discussions.

We cordially invite newcomers and visitors to come any time to learn about our practice.

Meditation instruction is offered by lay ministers for those who are unfamiliar with our practice. If you would like instruction please arrive 15 minutes early or call or e-mail the contact person. There is no charge or obligation to sign up for anything.

Please contact Chris at 2perskes@gmail.com or srmchico@gmail.com with questions!

As part of its affiliation with Shasta Abbey, the group receives guidance from experienced monks. Once each month, a monk from Shasta Abbey visits the group to present a Dharma talk, lead ceremonies and answer questions. Spiritual counseling is also offered for anyone who would like to talk privately to the monk.

On the week that we have a visiting monk our schedule changes a bit, usually:

Wednesday evening – Vegetarian potluck starting at 6:00 p.m., meditation at 7:30, followed by a Dharma talk/discussion

Thursday morning– Meditation starting at 7:30 a.m. morning service at 8:00, followed by a potluck breakfast.

All are welcome!
